Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says that he believes Apple will add Face ID to the Mac in the next couple of years. He said this in his Power On newsletter. Gurman also said that iPhone SE models and non iPad Pro models will also get Face ID in the near future.
“But I expect that to eventually change. It won’t happen this year, but I’d bet Face ID on the Mac is coming within a couple of years. I expect all iPhones and iPads to transition to Face ID within that timeframe, too. Eventually, a camera embedded in the screen would help differentiate Apple’s pricier devices by eliminating the notch at the top. The facial recognition sensor gives Apple two central features: security and augmented reality. Touch ID, more convenient or not, only provides the former.”Mark Gurman
Gurman also reports that the recently launched newly redesigned 24inch iMac has at first planned to include a Face ID feature. Unfortunately, that Face ID feature has been delayed to include with the next new redesigned iMacs. It’s hard to put Face ID in a Macbook, not like the iPhones and iPads, laptop screens are significantly thinner than those iPad and iPhone screens.
