Telegram will be releasing Group Video Call feature in May

In May Telegram users will be able to make group video calls together. Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced that they are bringing a group video call feature to its iOS version of the Telegram app in May. The company originally planned to release this group video call feature in 2020, but they couldn’t finalize that feature. And somehow telegram managed to add an end-to-end encrypted one-to-one video call feature in August 2020.

Durov also said on his official Telegram channel that this new group video calling feature includes typical features you’ll find in other video conferencing services, such as screen sharing, noise cancellation, end-to-end encryption, desktop and tablet support. Calls will get the speed and encryption that users are expecting from Telegram.

Telegram already supports one-on-one video calling and group voice chats. However, it is an addition to Telegram that gives a slight resemblance to Zoom, WhatsApp, Messenger Rooms, etc.

Telegram has grown significantly due to the pandemic and the controversy over the update of the new WhatsApp privacy policy. Telegram announced that they reached 400 million monthly active users in April 2020, and they only have 200 million monthly active users back in 2018. And due to the new privacy policy update of Telegram competitor WhatsApp, People started switching from WhatsApp to WhatsApp alternatives like Signal and Telegram.
