How it works

1

Answer one question at a time

Each question gets its own page and a progress bar, so you always know how far you've got left.

2

Cover five reasoning types

Pattern Recognition, Logical Reasoning, Numerical Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, Spatial Reasoning, three questions each, roughly easy to hard.

3

A full breakdown by category, plus a downloadable score card you can share. No waiting, no email required.

What this IQ test actually measures

Every IQ test, ours included, is really five smaller tests wearing one score. We built this one around the five reasoning categories that show up across almost every widely used IQ test, from classic pattern-matrix formats to modern cognitive assessments. Here's what each one is checking for:

Pattern Recognition

Spot the rule running through a sequence or grid, then extend it. The category most people picture when they hear "IQ test."

Logical Reasoning

Work out what actually follows from a set of statements, and what only sounds like it does.

Numerical Reasoning

Number sequences and lateral-thinking riddles that test pattern-spotting more than arithmetic.

Verbal Reasoning

Vocabulary and word analogies: matching the relationship between one pair of words to another.

Spatial Reasoning

Rotate and transform shapes in your head, without moving anything.

Curious how these categories map onto IQ testing in general, and why these five specifically? We go deep on each one, with examples, in our guide to the five types of reasoning every IQ test measures.

Understanding your score

Your result maps your raw score (out of 15) to one of five bands, loosely modeled on the standard IQ bell curve where 100 is the population average and most people land within about 15 points of it in either direction:

Raw scoreBandEstimated range
0 - 3 / 15 Developing Below 90
4 - 7 / 15 Average 90–109
8 - 10 / 15 Above Average 110–119
11 - 13 / 15 Superior 120–129
14 - 15 / 15 Exceptional 130+

"Average" covers a wide majority of people by design, not a disappointing result. For the full picture, including what percentile each band roughly represents and why a single number never tells the whole story, read our breakdown of what counts as a good IQ score.

A few things worth knowing before you start

Why we don't gate your score

A lot of "free" IQ tests answer every question and then ask for an email address or a small payment before showing you the number. That's a common business model, and not necessarily a scam, but it's worth knowing about before you start one. We show the full score and category breakdown immediately because we think that's what "free" should actually mean. See our full comparison of free versus paid IQ tests for how the free-test industry typically works.

What a score like this can't tell you

IQ tests, including proper clinical ones, are genuinely useful for measuring certain kinds of reasoning, but they don't capture creativity, emotional intelligence, practical judgment, or motivation, and a casual online test adds its own limitations on top of that. We wrote a full, honest look at what psychologists actually say about what IQ tests measure if you want the fuller picture.

Frequently asked questions

Is this IQ test really free?

Yes. There's no email, no signup, and no paywall. You see your full score and category breakdown the moment you finish, with nothing gated behind a "detailed report" purchase.

How many questions are there, and how long does it take?

15 questions, one per page, across five reasoning categories. Most people finish in 5-8 minutes.

Is this a scientifically validated IQ test?

No. This is a short, entertainment-oriented self-assessment built for fun and for comparing scores with friends, not a clinically validated psychometric instrument. A real IQ assessment is administered by a licensed psychologist under controlled conditions.

Do you store my answers or results?

No. Your answers are held only in your browser's session storage while you take the test, purely so the site can track your progress from one question page to the next. Nothing is sent to a server, and everything is erased automatically the moment you close the tab.

Can I share or save my result?

Yes. The results page lets you download your score card as an image or share it directly to social apps.

What's a good score on this test?

Most people land in the average range, and that's genuinely the point, not a letdown: average covers a wide majority of people by design. Our full breakdown of what the score bands mean, with percentile context, is in our guide to what counts as a good IQ score.

Why don't you gate the results behind an email or a paywall like other free tests?

Because we think a test that calls itself free should actually be free. Plenty of online IQ tests answer every question and then ask for an email or a payment before showing the number. We cover exactly how that works, and why, in our comparison of free versus paid IQ tests.

This is a short, entertainment-oriented self-assessment for fun and friendly comparison. It is not a clinically validated psychometric instrument and doesn't diagnose anything. For a formally recognized IQ score, a licensed psychologist can administer a validated assessment.
